Nov2008/1 bulletin: Greenlane unity needed to jointly fight threat of security incidents

Residents carry out initiatives to improve security

A handful of residents have been hard at work since September to improve security in Greenlane. Meetings were held amongst committee members and with the security service provider to improve the guards performance. Even so, the Committee encourages residents to collaborate towards improving overall security in Greenlane.

Actions taken to enhance security

Any security measure such as home alarms, grilles and security guards will not eliminate crime. However, each security measure is a deterrent that reduces the probability of crimes. To this end, residents have done the following:

  • additional street lighting at the back lane of U8/75
  • guard house at Greenlane entry
  • barbwire fencing at the north-west slope bordering Greenlane
  • partial relocation of ‘rumah kongsi’
  • replacement of security service provider

Residents participation in security efforts still needs improving

Despite the tireless efforts of some, the number of residents participating, paying and volunteering to be a part of the security solution is still a long way from the desired level to sustain an acceptable level of security in Greenlane. Payment of the 3-monthly security fee is a major problem that needs to be addressed. Residents are advised to contact their respective line leaders or committee members to help improve security.

Entry point gating & car sticker system

The Committee gives notice to all residents that a 'swing-gate' system is being arranged at the neighbourhood entry point by early November. The gating system was voted as necessary to ensure effective monitoring of the entry of unknown / unregistered vehicles into our Greenlane neighbourhood area. In line with this, new car stickers for the year 2009 are being produced. The costs of the new stickers will be advised soon.

Other developments

  • Next Residents Committee meeting to be held middle of November
  • The annual Greenlane Gathering is expected in early December

We wish all our Hindu friends a very Happy Deepavali
