Aug2008/1 bulletin: Security concerns increase.
Economic slowdown driving increases in security incidences
The recent spate of security incidences and disturbances brought the Residents Community together on 14 August 2008 to discuss how we can improve the safety of Greenlane. One of the immediate actions would be to put the current security service provider on a one month close watch, with the expectation of improved performance. The second action would be to step up security participation and collection amongst residents. Security matters are frequently discussed on the website, so do join in the debate and problem solving at http://greenlane.bukitjelutong.net/.
Other developments
- Occupied premises increased to 123 out of 206
- Permanent guard post completed after strong community requests
- More car stickers will be available in a weeks' time
- Next Residents Committee meeting to be held middle of September
Residents advised to be wary of power surge
A number of residents had reported experiencing power surges resulting in damaged household appliances. Tenaga Nasional (“TNB”) had been called in for these cases and placed surge protection devices at the power distribution boxes. This problem appears to be a common occurrence in Greenlane so residents are advised to contact TNB if such a thing happens.
Calls for more social activities for the community
Greenlane is fast becoming a cosy enclave in Bukit Jelutong, as more and more residents move in to their new homes. The Residents Committee noted that the feeling of community is strong, although there is a desire to know more of the new faces moving into the area. Social activities like Pot Lucks, games, and gotong-royongs were good ways to build a stronger community bond. With Ramadhan coming up followed by Hari Raya and Deepavali, it would be a good opportunity to start planning for our own Greenlane Hari Raya and Deepavali Pot Luck targeted around third week of October. Stay tuned for news on this.
Greenlane website remains the main platform for interaction
The Greenlane website has been serving the Greenlane residents since 2007 in providing a platform to discuss all sorts of topics relevant to the community. Residents are advised to air their concerns, share ideas and interact with each other at the website. This website is very interactive and you can find the latest happenings there. Feel free to update fellow residents with anything you feel is relevant to all.
