Interaction amongst members to me is an important aspect in building a community.

So i invite all residents, members and visitors to share thoughts and topics of interest in our forum.

simple question

my simple question is "how can we encourage residents to participate on this website"?

getting a view of usage...

just would like to get a view of online usage. how many residents -

a. have internet access (preferably broadband *wink*) & email
b. regularly access internet (at office or home)
c. how to get residents regularly check and participate in the website communications

how to get residents regularly check and participate in the webs

Hi everyone,
I will be joining u guys as resident of greenlane insyallah by end of march or early april.
Another way to create awareness about this website among residents is by putting/hanging information banner at main entry road out there.
The banner's design, i leave it to xpert to make it good enough to attract people attention.
Another place where we can advertise our website is at community hall, surau, mosque and
guthrie office bulletin boards.

wassalam.

thanks for the suggestion

i think miaqun73's suggestion is good. let's put together some cash to put up a banner. i can do the design.

but more importantly, aside from the awareness - what are your thoughts on how to create a need to use the site?

... agreed

I do agree with the suggestion to put up a banner. In fact the matter had been raised before on another thread 'Our website - Pls advertise' some time on 22 February 2007.

Though as mentioned before, assuming we get the design and the collections all sorted out, we still might need MBSA's or Guthrie's permission (where applicable) to put up such a banner.

On the separate point, with regards to creating a need to use this site, I think you are doing fine. It has become a place for information (of news and events), an avenue for residents to have meaninful discussions, suggestions as well as a centre point to raise our concerns and grouses to the relevant parties (and yes I do take note that the committee is doing this voluntary).

With more participation from more residents, the need to use this site will naturally expand.

Kudos to yours as well as the committee's efforts.

thanks.

bro. thanks for the recognition. will start thinking about the banner as well.

Pls reveal yourself

I've noticed some new joiners in the group but the personal details are not provided. Appreciate if the relevant personl 'declare' their identities. Nicknames are permitted (I thinkla...).

... this is sad

I am beginning to think this is mainly a three person chatting site only. In most of the discussion threads posted, I see the black spiderman and the two smiley guys (one with horns and the other one without) participating.

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but its a shame to have this platform to have active neighbourhood discussion go to a wee bit of a waste.

Anyway, theFazz, need to check with you, I had submitted the relevant phone line & streamyx application forms to the TM office in Damansara Uptown area on the 16th April 2007 and todate, nothing has been happened. Is this normal? Have done and will do my part on following up with them on a regular basis. As such, I can only log in to this site during office hours (when I am at the office ... and thats when I should really be doing my work).

cant particpate online (at home)? no internet connections yet?

... - can you PM me the chronology of your registration experience so that i can get somebody to look into this to improve for others?

Posted by TheFazz on 22 March 2007 - 7:00pm.

Don't worry theFazz. Latest update from the TM customer care people. I should be getting my phone line within the next week or so. My streamyx would only come slightly after that. Hope it happens without any hiccups.

Tips to new residents:-
I was informed that it is normal that the period of getting a phone line would normally take around 2 to 3 weeks (they would need to do the necessary processing on their part). I heard from some of the earlier residents, things took much longer. So it does appear that things are improving.

Hence for those who haven't moved in yet, perhaps it would be wise to go to the nearest TM office to register for your phone/streamyx line. Hopefully, by the time you do move in, you'd already have a ready phone/internet line ... and perhaps we'd have more active participation from more residents. Smiling

Passive participants

Huge thanks to spidey and smiley for the consistent active participation. I guess the others (like me) are a little more passive but do wish to highlight that we do learn a lot from the so-called '3-party-only' talks.

As for dealings with TM, TNB, Syabas... i need to stress that follow-up is necessary as i have had really bad experiences with all of them. TM was slow and kept pushing the buck, TNB lost my documents and claimed i have never submitted (good thing i got stamped acknowledgement from them), and Syabas busted their timeline and only worked on it after several calls were made to them. Nevertheless, i need to point out that my experience with TNB and Syabas was with their Klang branch and not the Shah Alam branch.
